We have a HUGE impact gun from harbor freight. Had to hook up two 25 gallon compressors to get enough cfm to do it. One big one should work though. I usually only have problems with stock motors. Mazda used a ridicilus amount of torque on the flywheel nut. The remans are easier.

that is tiny, lol. just get a big bottle of nitrogen, that is what i use. About 500 psi worth gets that FUCKER off

you need a thundergun/indycar/F1 car impact gun

pengaru 04-18-2003 08:57 PM

you just need to go somewhere that has 1" drive sockets.

napa has them, thats where I bought mine. Snap-on trucks have them too, I imagine they are available through sears/craftsman too. You'll need a 1'2" to 1" drive adapter to use it on what is likely a 1/2" drive on your rachet or impact gun.

I used an impact wrench on the jspec, it came right off actually...I don't have a very large fancy impact wrench

yeah the flywheel nut is easy, any 1/2" drive impact should be able to do it. The eccentric shaft bolt is more of a pain than the flywheel nut.

After the nut is out, the nightmare is not over, u gotta remove the flywheel which is pressed in there too, so you need a puller to get that sucker out, that more of a pain too.

when i took mine off i used a torque multiplier i dont know how much it cost cause i borrowed it from a school

The Flywheel nut is a 54mm or 2 1/8" I took mine off with a 3/4 drive socket and a 1/2 drive impact... that was the easy part..

I then went to harbor freight and got a puller set... steering wheel puller type thing. I did have to go buy 2 new bolts to thread into the flywheel, and i made an extension for the puller out of 1/4 x 1 steel bar. bolt it all on the flywheel with a piece of copper (or aluminum) plate so that I didn't break the pilot bearing, and back to the impact for turning the puller, Id suggest not being directly under the flywheel, they are quite heavy and painful. Give it a little turn with the impact, and a rap with a deadblow hammer.. should just be a matter of time..

Remember this : The car WILL NOT win, You are smarter and have more tools.

i have a bigger hammer. the 19mm on the front is harder
