Help a newbie with.
#1
Okay, so here's what I got, and what I want. I've done much research and am not too sure on how to peice it all together.
I own a 1986 NA 5spd.
I am currently in the midst of doing a TII swap on it.
The thing I am missing most at this point in my life is the Motor. What exactly do I want? I want something that will be a reasonable daily driver. But kick the pants off the ricers out here in Alberta and in BC. I want something better then the normal TII motor.
What would be the best setup to acheive all this?
Standalone system?
What type of assembly should I be looking at getting?
I am still new to this whole rotary thing, but am learning much between AF NP and RX7Club. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Morgan

get it rebuilt and streetported. upgrade the turbo, BOV,cone filter, downpipe, and if u have deep enough pockets get a standalone ECU. thats a good start to a quick t2
Already planned for the standalone, looking at a Haltech unit.

Good unit choice, also once the motor is in, make sure you do all the rliabilty mods, which im sure is being done at the same time as the motor is going in.

I will be waiting to put the motor in the car untill I find a good set of hoses, injectors, plugs, wires. And a grounding kit. Also thinking of going with a slightly larger Alternator. Just because I don't want to run into the same problem my buddy is having with his FC. It just. randomly dies... Done this once or twice. think we got it figured out.
He needs a new battery for sure. and we are still trying to figure some differnt things out... Like why his car has one messed up Idle.
I suppose it's better to learn on his dime then mine!
As mean as that sounds.

Just get a nice flowing one, they usualy tell you what peak boost or hp you can use them too. For the power ur looking for, any spearco or whatever brand, would work for you as long as it fits in the front bumper, cutting can sometimes be necessary.

How do you determine what type and size of intercooler to run? As I am looking at a stage 2 Turbo build.
the easy way: buy the greddy kit, its $800, but you'll spend like $742 building your own, so its a time saver.
hard way: build yer own. basically you're looking for the biggest thing you can fit in there, which behind the bumper is around 28"w x 10-12" tall and 3-3.5" width. in front of the frame rails you can fit much wider.
piping depends on the turbo you have, and weather you've got a/c and or p/s. 2.5" pipe is fine
