I've got an 86 RX7 GXL that appears to have a dead #2 Rotor. I'm getting fuel out of all 4 injectors and I seem to have spark as well, but I don't have the #2 rotor going. The car starts up fine, but idles roughly. I'm afraid that the apex seal is shot, but I'd like to avoid replacing or rebuilding the engine if at all possible. Are there any possible solutions to my problem. If so please let me know.

Cool

Have you checked your compression yet? That would let you know if it was your apex seal.

Unhappy

Yea check compression on all three seals, if you've got good compresion, then just like ILUVMY88CABRIO said it's not a apex seal. Is there anything else that leads you to believe it's the apex seal(s)? Smoke cloud, etc???

PS. Welcome aboard!!!

The car starts fine. and the only extra smoke that rolls out of the exaust is from excess gas at start up. Its just that it idles like crap. I haven't checked compression, but I have checked all 4 injectors and replaced leading/trailing spark plugs and coils. How exactly would I go abuotu checking compression? What kind of tools are involved? OR is this work for a shop?

You can get regualr compression testers pretty cheap, but it's a little tricky to test because you have to get three separate readings from the same spark plug hole (if that makes any sense) they do make special compression testers for rotaries, but I have no idea what they cost. I'm going to bet you don't have a bad apex seal. Have you checked spark on both the leading and trailing plugs?

Have you done all the simlpe checks, sir filter, no intake leaks, injectors are good (you already stated that). What does it do at idle, surge? not idle for ****? You running cheap gas? Did y ou just buy the car, was it running fine before?
