I have a s5 car with a manual tranny. The first and second gears dont work at all, the shifter will move and feel like it is enguaging in gear but the car is still in neutral. Is this type of thing reperable or is it easier just to replace it?

Best Regards,

Paul

First off, welcome to the forum

Any transmission can be fixed by a transmission shop, there is nothing unusual about the mazda tranny. I do not reccomend rebuilding it yourself unless you have done it many times before.

Yeah I agree....You take that cover off and start seeing a bunch of little gears and sprockets that you think are useless. Then you realize you can save alot of weight by taking half that stuff out.....................

The you start saying alot of bad words cause your car is f-ed up and you end up taking all the parts to a tranny shop. In other words.... Dont do it yourself!

Everytime I give an estimate I am way off. The car I just bought has a rebuilt tranny from Pettit Racing. You might want to start looking their!

Transmission rebuilts range anywhere from (depending on what's broke) 250$ - 700$

Your best bet (if high funds are not avaliable) would be to go to a junk yard and get a S5 transmission. you might get lucky and be able to locate one for under 200 bucks with low miles

Or if you real lucky you might find a Wrecked... Turbo 2.

Than you could just buy the whole thing and put a turbo transmission, driveshaft, halfshafts and ect.. into your car and have a much more reliable transmission.

Good luck
