I have a s5 car with a manual tranny. The first and second gears dont work at all, the shifter will move and feel like it is enguaging in gear but the car is still in neutral. Is this type of thing reperable or is it easier just to replace it?

First off, welcome to the forum
Any transmission can be fixed by a transmission shop, there is nothing unusual about the mazda tranny. I do not reccomend rebuilding it yourself unless you have done it many times before. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |
I do not reccomend rebuilding it yourself unless you have done it many times before. The you start saying alot of bad words cause your car is f-ed up and you end up taking all the parts to a tranny shop. In other words.... Dont do it yourself! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
so how much do you think it would be to repair? Ballpark?

Everytime I give an estimate I am way off. The car I just bought has a rebuilt tranny from Pettit Racing. You might want to start looking their!

Transmission rebuilts range anywhere from (depending on what's broke) 250$ - 700$
Your best bet (if high funds are not avaliable) would be to go to a junk yard and get a S5 transmission. you might get lucky and be able to locate one for under 200 bucks with low miles Or if you real lucky you might find a Wrecked... Turbo 2. Than you could just buy the whole thing and put a turbo transmission, driveshaft, halfshafts and ect.. into your car and have a much more reliable transmission. Good luck Markus |
