Bad Idle
#1
1987 TII When it starts in the morning it idles really bad, revs are high then goes the the point of dying. When it warms up it is fine. Don't have a clue where to start. Any suggestions on where to start. First Mazda RX-7 Turbo II.

it will soon blow up, you should sell it to me, you don't want those silly Turbo II's, theyre very unreliable cars. How much you want? :evildeal:
It's supposed to jump high at cold start, then come down as the coolant heats up.... thats part of the accelerated warmup system mazda employed in the cars.. it can be disabled if you want to modify it.... it shouldnt go to the point
of dying though after it's warmed up.. although you said it revs high then goes to the point of dying, but is fine when it warms up... The revs should fall down to idle level once it is just about warmed up.... so I'm not sure what exactly you are experiencing since you say it's fine when it warms up, do you mean the problem doesnt occur when it's warm outside?

there are a couple of things it could be.
1. cheif suspect: the thermowax; its a wax pellet that lives in the throttle body, it pushes the throttle open the throttle when its cold. its either bad or it has air in it. it is in the rear of the t body, there are 2 coolant hoses going into it.
2. the bac valve, this is the valve that maintains the idle speed when the car is warmed up, its an electrical solenoid, that is cycled on and off by the computer. if this is bad the idle will always be low
