Unhappy

I bought this '86 auto na glx form a tow lot not running and have have been working on many problems.

The last problem the car had was overheating which seemed to be a real head-scratcher. After replacing some heater hoses, heat caused another hose to burst in the middle. This small hose ran from the throtle body down to the top of the engine on the back side of the intake(near the firewall). To replace this hose, the throtle body/dynamic chamber/ext. man.w/sec.fuel rail assembly was removed and replaced. While working on this, a vacuum line from the water thermo valve(back side of throtle body) was noticed as missing and replaced (missing completely before then).

After starting the car when had been put back together it ran fine for 25min. very cool, no overheat problems any more (I turned the a/c on for most of the time too), and it ran smooth. Then the idle got lower and surged down and back up. Unless I held my foot on the gas it would eventually stall out.

Before the intake was removed/replaced the car ran smooth but would evevtually begin to overheat(I would shut it down before too late).

Now it no longer overheats but idles bad after it warms up-- while its warming up it runs fine/drives fine.

what's going on?

p.s. this is my 5th rx-7 but 1st 2nd gen.

the surging and having to keep the ur foot on the gas, sounds like a vacuum leak.

but it only happens after its warmed up for at least 10-15 min. and then you drive it around the block. then for the rest of the day it's like it's already warmed up.---but untill its fully warmed up everything runs great.

--someone has got to have a better idea than just 'vacuum leaks' --i rechecked the vacuums again---

Adjust your TPS Sensor. I have the same problem w/ mine. As soon as its warmed up it goes from 1500 to 700. Dont go out and buy a new TPS. Just adjust the little screw with a long skinny socket wrench (I think right below the TPS) Butu will need to do all this while the car is on and the trottle body is on.

Ryan

PM if u have any questions.

And mine still gets irratic because Im too lazy to go to buddys house and pick up the tool.

TPS-- Is that the throtle position sensor (black rectangle with a button) located toward the bottom front side of the throtle body? If so wher's the little screw?

It seemed to be a 'loose' wire assoc. with the TPS. Seems to be fixed.
