88 Auto tranny in an SE. Ok, this is what it does, when I am driving say about 40mph, I have the OD off, when I put pedal on the floor, it does not down shift and take off. Instead, it just accelerates like I gave if just a little more gas during normal driving. Is my car supposed to down shift at wide open throttle from slower speeds, I know that it most likely wont at higher speeds. How does this compare to other autos? It has a new modulator on it and the tranny checks out. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

how fast will second go if you take off from the line flooring it?

It should downshift as low as it can go without hitting redline. It may be a problem with the tranny, but I'm no expert when it comes to auto's

It just accelerates, no downshift. I am hoping I have a bad sensor or something.

I'd take it to a shop. Auto trannies are pretty complex.
