I brought my alternator to autozone and got the free test done. According to them the diode is bad. I was gonna open up the alternator and replace the diode so i could get away cheap. My question is 1) where can i get the diode and how much will it cost and 2) would the size of the diode have to be specific for the car or can i use any size?

Thanks in advance

Josh

I think you need to replace the whole rectifier, which houses the diodes.

Mine failed the same test and I ended up replacing the stator, rectifier and regulator, because the guy I paid to fix it the first time monkeyed it up so bad the next guy wouldn't re-use the other parts.
