Can the FC Alternator be made to regulate voltage without the ECU?

Right now its constantly charging up with it unplugged from the computer.

I might try to put an external voltage regulator on it.

neither the Fc series 4 (86-88), series 5 (89-91) or the FD alts require an ECU to function.

It doesn't "plug into the computer". The wiring harness that plugs into the alt is connected to the ignition switch.

I suggest you get the wiring diagrams.
