[quote name='612_Rex7' date='May 13 2005, 09:02 AM']Only Turbo II my friend. I believe the only difference between the 87-88 and 89-91 are the rim size. The older models of TurboII come with 15's only and the 89^ came with 16's.......I think

Whoa! Rear end, taillights, front bumper, mirrors, interior, suspension. There were TONS of things that were added to the S5's. And there is a ton more than what is on that list.

As far as power differences between S4 and S5 turbos, for the S5 they;

Increased compression to 9.0:1

Used a twin scroll turbocharger

Electronically controlled wastegaste to increase boost to 8.6 psi

And they got rid of the Flapper door style MAF

Stock boost on S4 is what? 7psi right?

Also don't forget all of the external differences between the series.

Yes, I was just going over the internal differences of the motor and power applications.

On the S5 Mazda redesigned the twin scroll system and called it the "Completely Independent Twin Scroll." The exhaust wheel was almost directly fed by the exhaust port. Basically when the apex seal first crosses the exhaust port, it cause a large distrubance in the chamber, as it is a large and very dramatic change in volume. The exhaust gases leave the chamber, relatively, faster than the a piston engine. These pulses of exhaust gas from the motor helps spool the turbo faster. Mazda realized this and made it so the exhaust wheel would get a more direct hit from these pulses which helped increase spool time.
