The 5 ad 6th ports are in the intake manifold, they are just regulated by exhaust gas backpressure. To take them out u have to remove all the intake manifolds, then u simply just pull them out and i think just take off the actuator arm, im not too sure i have never done it. Why do u want to take them out? are they not working? If they are working thats better off, than being tied open. BUt if all you care about it top end, you should just remove them all together. another thread here

Removing the exhaust sleeves will only make you lose power if you havent ported your exhaust A LOT. Also, its not very well suited for a street car. The steel sleeve is there to prevent some heat from the exhaust from heating up the coolant.

this topic is getting kind of confusing. There are 2 different things being discussed here. The 5 and 6th ports and the exhaust diffusers, they have no effect on each other. THe exhaust diffusers( some ppl are using the term baffels) are to lower the tone of the n/a engine.

Quick dictionary:

exhaust sleeves - the steel sleeve in the exhaust ports. All production rotaries have these. It keeps exhaust heat out of the rotor housing and coolant.

Diffuser - a restriction placed in the exhaust sleeves of n/a rotor housings only. This is to keep the noise level down on n/a's.

6 port sleeves - the rotating sleeves in the engine block that are used to open and close the 5/6 ports on the intake.

Confusion cleared.
