But the huge overlap is what results in the higher emissions and poor fuel economy which has always given the Rotary it's bad rap.



I'm sure people will be porting those Renesis engines within a few years.



Now if Mazda could figure out a way to have both side ports and peripheral ports that switch over at higher speeds, we would be the perfect rotary engine.



But on paper I think the Renesis is pretty close to perfect.

There are people who add small peripheral intake ports on street ported motors. So it could probably be done on a Renesis motor for both the intake and exhaust.
