I've seen pics of this motor, I wonder if Mazda ever turned any out?

The engine is discussed here. Sounds like it would have been a nice little motor, had it been produced.

It produced 135hp @ 5750 rpm and 196Nm (145 lb-ft) @ 3500 rpm.
It seems pretty weak. What were they going to put it in.

Well, it was developed in the seventies. Think of that engine in Series V N/A spec, and I think the numbers would be far more impressive.

I imagine they would probably have used it in an RX-3 or RX-4, or whatever.

I still wouldn't want to put it in any of my cars. Its HP is only 135 that was more like the r100 or rx2

I'd always wondered why Mazda didn't do a BIGGER motor, but I guess they did.

What I want are the new RENESIS housings and sideplates. 0- overlap on exhaust and intake with that sideport design... I wonder when RacingBeat or someone will start selling these for the rest of us. Image that motor with a Turbo on it. 400 HP should be CAKE.

The side exhaust ports definitely help with both fuel economy and emmissions, but I don't know if they'll allow for the strong exhaust pulses rotaries have always had. The strong exhaust pulses are what allows us to run such large turbos with acceptable amounts of lag.
