Thumbs up

Im not doing but was wondering if it is worth it? I dont see the advantages to it. If im missing something here let me know. Like i said i was going to until i researched it ad felt dollar for dollar It was a waste. Then again i cant see why these honda guys spend the money on a motor swap cuz when your done its still a honda. Thats how i see a 3 rotor unless you have unlimited funds i say build what you have thats just that much more money you will have to use on the motor thats already there...........Just my opnion now whats yours..............

well i agree with you dollar for dollar it doesnt make a lot of sense, the 20b makes a lot more torque and its a lot smoother than the 13b and it should make the same hp with less stress on everything

Dollar for dollar, none of what we're doing makes any sense at all . . . so you might as well just get a 20B while you're at it.

Dollar for dollar in comparison to what exactly? A V8...a 4 rotor...a turbine... ?

For "most" people the OEM vehicle is enough in power, handling, etc. I think it sucked. I love how the car looks and I hate how piston motors sound...all that flapping and snapping noises of valves and junk.

The 20B is far cheaper than any piston motor I've seen being built up. I know of a kid who just did a 350 punched out to a 383 that is in the 420hp range for $20K. That is just the motor alone. You can do 50-70% of the 20B conversion project for that much with all the goodies added with a TII.

You can get a TII or a REW motor to hit the 400 range as well for half that amount but that's only HP and still little torque, plus the motor is pushing it's mechanical limits. A 20B is hitting 5-600HP with similar torque for a 1/2 to 1/3 less money than the piston example used with a single turbo and a rebuild plus porting. It's not working hard at all and got plenty of room left.

So what exactly are you comparing? Stock 20B to a stock chev 250 or ford 302 for the conversion? Or the money spent for the conversion that could be spent on the 13B for power which still wouldn't get you close to the additional power this thing puts out... THAT is the advantage we're speaking of.

yeah most people dont realize how expensive v8's are, to make any kind of power its like 5-6k just for the motor, and the aluminum block is another 4k, plus 2 for heads etc etc

i think hes means versus a 2-rotor, I ran that thought through my head too, i was considering a 20b, when i thought i can make more than enough pwr with my 13b. And plus funds was an issue but its gotta be fun dammit.

I just meant messing with performance cars, in general.

If you just have to do that sort of thing, the 20B is a great option.

v8 power is cheap, not expensive. I am half considering putting a 20b in my ultima, but the cost of the 20b vs the v8.

If I go with a carb motor there is no comparison you can get a 450+ hp motor with all accessories for around 5K from a number of companies. Most come with 2-year warrantees. Carb superchargers around 2500 and will put you in the 600+ range. Or if you want cheap power add a 200 shoot of N20.

Even if I go EFI, used LS1 with low mileage (>30k) sell all day long on ebay for 3-4K. New complete LS1 crate motors with computer are only 5500, 320 hp. New LS6 crate motors are selling for 8K, 405 hp. Adding power to a v8 is also cheap. Super charger packages for the LS1/LS6 are 5500 and come with everything, ic, computer, new injectors. You can get 500+ out of an LS1 and 750+ out of a LS6.

I would love to go with a 3 rotor but the cost is probably not worth it.

4000 for a 10 year old block

3000 to rebuild + port

2000 for a single turbo

1500 for a computer

800 for a wastgate

1000 for a intercooler

400 for bov

hours of dyno tuning

Then add the fact that a rotary is no where near as reliable as a v8. All that being said I am still considering putting a 20b in it. I just have to convince myself to spend the extra money.

once you have your rotary setup they are very reliable. ray lockhead went for like 3 years on the same motor in the late 90's, the star mazda cars rebuild their motors every 2nd or 3 season, the 787b could have run for another 24hours, my 150k gsl-se sees over 8k rpms on a daily basis
