It was nasty outside so I ended up working on the front cover mount. I sliced it and welded it back together. I hope the ugly butt welds hold. My last bead turned out the nicest looking. I still have to add gussets to the bottom, but the basic lift is finished. I settled on 15.5mm (yeah, half a mm lol). I'll clean it up tomorrow and test it on the engine before I go any further.

How much weight do you think a butt weld will hold?

Depends of if you are welding with gas or not and how hot you were running it.

Flux core. They're some ugly welds! I added some extra pieces today. I'm not sure how much more strength it'll have from the extra pieces, but they may help. Since they are a thinner guage, they got red hot. Do you think that reduced the strength at all?

!

I cleaned it up some today and threw it on the engine. It looks good. It still needs paint, and will always be ugly, but I think it'll hold the power fine. I may touch it up a little with the welder later, but for now, I'll let it sit there while I decide how to do the exhaust.

Cool.Worst comes to worst you can lay fiberglass or body filler over the welds to clean it up and make it smooth looking.Get that primer with spot filler in it.

It's not that ugly.

I was just out there messing with the header. It looks like it should go together pretty well. I'll try to get back out there in a bit.

I've been concentrating on the GLC lately. I haven't messed with the MG in about a week.

I propped up the header piece so it matched the middle pipe piece on the 20B flange. It took a while to get it just right. I'll try to start welding on it tomorrow.

I hope it'll be easy to install and remove since the idler arm is really close. I also hope the atkins manifold will fit. I'm trying to keep the middle pipe as low as possible. It looks like it'll be at the same height as the upper studs. Or maybe I was looking at it from the wrong angle. I'll know more tomorrow before I tack it in place.
