That butterfly you see is the "Shutter Valve" that mike (j9fd3s) was talking about.

It's supposed to be open at all times. The only time it closes is during deceleration.



On my Nikki the fuel is 1/2 way up the window. Runs 7000rpm all day.

Didn't you say it runs fine with the choke on? Did you allow it to fully warm up?



The fuel cut solenoid should have power to it when the ignition is turned on.

If it does, try taking a jumper wire, with the engine off, unplug the fuel cut solenoid

and jumper it to the + terminal on the battery. You should hear a clicking noise

in the carb. If not, remove it and check for free movement if the needle.

If needle moves freely, then replace the solenoid.

the solenoid is good. the shutter valve? why is it there, can i remove it? what does it do and what controls it?

the shutter valve closes the rear rotor on deceleration, in order to keep the catylist temprature stable. it is vacuum actuated (check the valve, they go bad a lot) by a solenoid on the rack. the solenoid is turned on by the emissions control box with gets its signal from the tps. it is possible for the tps to be bad, and for the valve to be on at the wrong time

ok well most of the emissions are removed, i think this shutter valve bullshit maybe one possibility, hell it acts like its only running on one rotor anyways, more like one and the other just isnt getting enough fuel. could be stuck closed? can i just remove it all?

going to have to remove it, and all it would do then is backfire on decceleration right? and i dont have a tps on a 1st gen, thats fuel injected.

they do have a tps on the front of the carb, 3 wires

Your carb is not a 83-85 model if it doesn't have one.But this won't cause it not to start tho.
