i have a 1982 GSL with power windows that wont go up. i tested the motors manually and they both work fine in both directions. but when i plug them back into the car, they will go up but not down. i have the same problem with the headlights. they go up but not down. it seems as if the switches are bad but i couldnt believe that all three switches would go out at the same time. the fuses are all ok so i was wondering if there was an overide switch somewhere. any suggestions?

The switches are bad. Yes they tend to all go at the same time. The switches go bad because they are not on a relay, so they get direct 12v current. They get some kind of carbon buildup due to them arcing.

The best thing to do is get yourself some relays and new switches, or try cleaning out the switches with silicone spray (prefer the earlier).

If you do get new switches, remember to get "momentary on" rocker switches. You don't want to press the switch on and off for the windows up or down, you want to stay off when its in the middle and rock up for windows up and rock down for windows down, returning off to the middle when you take off your finger.

I hope that makes sense.
