Hello I would like to introduce myself. My name is Papo and I've been into rotaries since 1991.



I was voted as the spokesperson for Vintage Mazda Rotary Club of Connecticut.



Vintage Mazda Rotary Club is an effort by a group of people to deal away with a political hierarchy that you see in many clubs. As a result, our club does NOT have a PRESIDENT or any one member is higher than the next. Every member in the club is equal and any decision making is discussed at our meetings. That said, we are looking for any Vintage Mazda Rotary heads who wants to join our club. So anyone in the Tri-State area is welcomed.



Your car has to be a 1985 or older Mazda Rotary to join the club, but we will not exclude other rotaries from coming to our meets. We realize that this is an opportunity for everyone to see a large gathering of older rotaries and we would not want to deny anyone the opportunity. In fact, anyone who is interested in the history of Mazda Rotaries should come and see these cars.



We will be posting more information on meets and locations soon. Our website will also be up and running soon. If you are interested reply or pm me your contact information and I will get in contact with you. We are NOT affiliated with any other tri state car club.



I appreciate your time in reading this post and we look foward to hearing from all the Vintage Mazda Rotary heads soon.

My appologies, It was my fault. I was actually carefull and looked to see if there was any rules on posting here and I did not find anything. I went further and searched to see if there were similar threads, and there was. I checked the thread and there wasnt any comments about posting. So I felt it was safe, I then asked Papo to post. Again my sincerest appologies and as a token I'll contibute...



My REPU dash rebuild...



I bought a 1975 Mazda REPU and it is in pretty good shape, but the dash is another story. It look like one of those draughts in africa with massive cracks, well, see for yourself...















I also went to a local upholstery shop and the guy said no way I should get a used one. So I went around posting for a used dashpad and was successful in finding some, but they were out of my price range. I just cant see myself paying for a part that is a third or more than what I bought the REPU for.

So I put my brain in full gear, most of the time it feels like its in reverse, but I came up with this idea. Actually this idea is great stuff, no really.











This idea is probably not revolutionary, but hey I can try and if it works people can do it as well.

I carefully took a dull knife and removed the old vinyl...



















I took great stuff and sprayed the dashpad. This stuff is very hard to work with maybe someone knows if there is a better product out there or maybe I just have too much time on my hands

I then took a knife and sliced the excess stuff off and sanded it down...

























The consistency when I press down on the old foam vs. the new foam is almost the same.



I still need to hit it one more time, but its not to shabby. Hopefully the dash will be straight and I can have it recovered.

Might also wanna try the regional area of the forum since you mention the tri state area.. nice pics of the expanding foam to fix the dash pad..

Sorry its been awhile since I gave an update. Ive been busy building our new website.



I sanded the dash as straight as I could make it. I then gave it to an upholstery guy to finish it up. I should get it by the end of the month.

that spray foam is junk, get yourself some 2 part urethane foam, it dries almost hard like, so you can sand and shape it as need be.



just be sure to cover the area around you and mix a small amount to get a feel for the stuff.

whatever the foam lands on it will stick to, or consider fiberglassing the part you need
