did you accidentally cap off the crank case vent tube.. Or did you remove and block off the PCV or put it in backwards allowing boost or blow by to pressurize the crank case and force oil past the oi control rings and side seals?

you could also be just way out of tune now and that could be unburned fuel... usually fuel will look blue grey and linger, way too much fuel will be black but it wouldn't idle like that. burning oil can be from grey to black as well. Both of them will linger in the air for a while. If it's buring water it will be white, but it will disipate fairly fast and disapear as it is evaporated in to the air...

Are you checking your oil level frequently. You know the car will burn oil on purpose because of the oil meetering pump, but only a quart or less in 2500 to 3000 miles. See if you are burning a excessive amount in one week. Does your oil smell like fuel? does your coolant look like it has oil in it? Is there any visiable major oil leak around the sides of the block or rear of it?? I only ask because I have lived these nightmares and still am a bit now!!
