Since when does race gas burn hotter? Higher octane means more stable, not the other way around. Higher octane is more stable, thus it allows you to use a leaner mixture(more power) than you would be able to run with a less stable fuel(lower octane). When you are running higher compression, or boost you create heat which can lead to detonation, or too hot a plug, which can lead to pre-ignition(ignition caused by residual heat in the plug)(both will kill your motor), a more stable fuel(higher octane) is less suseptable to these effects, and allows you to run closer to the optimum mixture without blowing up your motor. I thought this was common knowledge, guess not Carl Byck

you would be correct sir... however, if it is tuned leaner for the higher oct. fuel it will then increase the ex temp slightly...

Ihor,

You may want to call Majestic Turbo in Waco, TX. If they're able to remove the turbine, they can actually fix the turbine itself. They'll balance it too. Price was reasonable. $125. I'm not sure what's involved with balancing the whole ball bearing section and actual assembly, but it may be a less expensive option for you. I had them fix my T78 turbine in this manner (damaged by an apex seal). I couldn't tell it had ever been damaged.

Thats apex seal damage not egt damage

If you want to just replace the cartridge call Brian at BNR, he can do it for you. he might also be able to get a better deal on the cart since he's in the biz and knows places to call.

Also, he'll be able to recheck the balance it to make sure its perfect

Recently I have had the same issues. My motor blew on the dyno at KDR with my new GT3540 kit installed. Apparently the Apex seals just imbedded themselves in my rotor and scared the housing up on the rear rotor, I have a new motor to put in but I know about the 2 motors IHOR has blown up. Makes me uneasy. I have had the injectors checked out and RC engineering said they were fine. Dave has dumped my gas and refilled it. he also bought a new wideband. Still worries me when there hasnt been a known root cause and now we are putting in the new motor this week.

Are you running PFC? Check the timing, make sure your settings are good. Seems like a lot of bad tuning going around latetly.
