Most likely was caused by the race gas. race gas(leaded)= high egt's= melted or overheated turbine and housing.
Does that mean that it is bad to use race gas just to cruise around with. What about when you are racing, what kind of egt differences would there be with race gas? Cause wouldn't the egt's be higher when you race than just driving on the street?

Either way your temps are going to be higher than normal because the race gas burns better. That causes the temps going into your exh to be higher. Obviously the temps are going to be thier highest when your racing because you are running the car harder.

Ok makes sense, but why would he blow an engine unless he was really lean? I've always thought that race gas was suppose to give more room for error and keep engines together, not melt them down.

Did he blow his engine? I don't think he did or did he? I thought he just melted down his turbine housing and wheel.

He blew everything sky high at a low boost. Very tragic and i'd like to know why, unless its just one of those freak incidents.

Not sure why. I didn't know that he blew his motor. Most likely the damage to his turbo was caused by a broken apex seal and not by the race gas. If I knew more about his motor going I would be able to give my opinion on why it went. You know the basics mileage, mods, speed, oil type, ignition timing, etc... If you have this info give it to me and I might know why. Just keep in mind that I'm no expert.

Well I believe his engine was fairly new, rebuilt recently by KDR. He made about 470rwhp @20psi on the race fuel, 430rwhp @15psi on pump gas, so all the typical mods. I think he was passing a car at a low speed somewhere around 10psi if i'm not mistaken when it let go. Not sure about the timing, but he uses a PFC. Stock 3mm seals, i've heard of cases where the seals don't set right then pop out all of a sudden for no reason, maybe that is it.

Fairly new motor from KDR...hummm. I know someone who had thier motor rebuilt by them about 13k ago and his motor went. The motor went mostly because of a mod he did incorectly. The interesting thing though was when he pulled it apart. He told me you could fit a finger nail in the gap between the side seals and the rotor. From what you told me about silver 93's motor going I think it was just a freak thing. Tell him to call KDR and see if it is still covered under waranty.
