i bought my car about a year and a half ago, knowing the turbos were not so good, the guy told me. i got it for 10k knowing the turbos needed to be replaced, well i've driven it for the last summer and now i want my new turbos. i went to mazda and they said new ones would cost 4800 i said hell with that i can get a nice single for that much. heres what i want to know can i get the gt35/40 kit and keep my stock intercooler and airpump? and if i only run like 7-8 lbs of boost do i need anything like an upgraded fuel pump? eventually i plan on getting a fmic and some kind of engine management but i dont wanna do it all at once plus i dont have enough $$ to do it all at once any one have some advice for me????

The 35/40 won't fit with the airpump, and would be a waste with a stock intercooler. Get yourself a used set of stock turbos for $200-600 or send your to BNR and get them rebuilt and upgraded for about $1800

A buddy of mine just took out his stock twins, which had been ported. They appear to be in good condition, wheels spin and no shaft play. I know he wasn't getting boost before, but probably just a hose problem. Anyways, either find some used twins, or you could possible get a kit like the new apexi which retains the airpump and is fairly small which means you would only really need to have an upgraded ecu such as the PFC. As long as you keep the boost around 10psi you wouldn't need to upgrade any fuel stuff or even the intercooler.
