If you get detonation at all, you'll know. Your motor will most likely be toast.
As for roots-type blowers, they are the WORST. I do NOT personally recommend their use, especially on a rotary. They heat the air worse than an inefficient turbocharger (and that's already bad). If you're going to supercharge a rotary without intercooling, use a twin-screw.
