Everyone I know adores my spankin' new 8,including me.

I though long and hard about a 3rd gen 7,but in the end decided to

go with the cutting edge tech of the eight.

Ever read the shoot-outs and such in C&D,Motortrend, etc?

The 8 spanks the competition in overall comparisons....there's a reason for that.

Anyhow, just thought I'd note my opinion, and will add that my first rotary was a 1980 RX-7 GS with an IMSA body kit the dealer installed.

I still miss that car.

The pic below is pre-mod,all the work'll be done on Monday,so I'll update then.

For the record,I'm likely gonna' buy a gen3 RX in '05,if Mazda doesn't release a new 'RX' model,first.....then it might have to,um,wait

[QUOTE]Haven't been in an RX-8 yet, but I hope to hell the car has a little headroom.

The subject of headroom is a little stale, but thought I would add my experience. I am 6'4" and spent a lot of time making sure I would fit in the 8 before buying. Had to get the sports package because the moon roof costs you about 1.5" of head space. Must to keep the seat in the lowest position, too. But, I fit comfortably. If I were 6'5", I would still be shopping.

Wink

i love my 8, It's an auto, I can put it in manual & shift on the wheel or just leave in it auto. I got the auto as i have arthrisis and it's much easier in the winter. It's a great sports car, that responds better than my 86 na but not as fast as hubbies 87 TII that he had hopped up (but that had every bell and whistle under the sun plus some), I made him promise to leave it stock for now at least...

My Son joseph is 6'3 and barely fits in the car but most of his height is in the long legs. He said he would be more comfortable if the seat could be lowered, I bought a base model with upgraded suspension. But I don't want him too comfortable, next he'll ask for it to go on a date..

The sports package driver's-side seat has a lever for jacking the seat up and down.(a shorter lever behind it controls the recline position). You have to pump the longer lever up to raise the seat and pump it down to lower it. You probably know this, but in case you have not tried it, this could help your son "fit in" better. (My daughter is learning to handle the car pretty well, but she has a snowball's chance of taking in on a date!)

I agree that the RX-8 has far more in common with the '86-'91 (gen-2)non-turbo RX-7, than it has with the "93-'95+ (gen-3) RX-7. Even right down to it's pricing, adjusted for inflation, the '8 more closely resembles the n/a gen-2 (well, maybe more specifically the earlier model gen-2s). Having driven and/or owned every model RX-7 ever produced, I can say that when I drove an RX-8, my impression was that it felt and drove almost exactly like a gen-2 non-turbo, the only exceptions being that it had a sixth gear and a little more rpm to play with. It didn't even feel any faster than those old cars, although to be fair, I didn't redline it because the nervous-nelly dealer was with me on the test drive. Anyway, my overall conclusion was that I'll wait until there's a good supply of used ones around and decide on one of them, based on how they're holding up. Because until proven otherwise, I'm still convinced that the gen-1 and to some extent the gen-2 are the only reliable ones that were built.
