It was never advertised as a replacement for the RX-7. On the contrary, Mazda was very specific in making sure it was understood it was not the replacement for the RX-7. They went so far as to name it RX-8.

I would think a replacement for a RX-7 would be named, hmm, RX-7.

Mazda has made a bunch of different rotary powered vehicles from sedans to trucks, but the RX-7 was the most successful and easy to identify.

Really, I think this car seems to appeal more to those who like cars like the BMW 325 coupe with a different style. A little more grown up and not about outright power. That is not a bad market to go for either considering how successful BMW has done with it.

Oh, and for 4 seats, 8 airbags, 18" wheels, full stereo, power everything, abs, new crash standards, etc, I think it is interesting they kept the weight below 3000lbs.

i think i should've registered the rx8club.com URL 2 years ago before the 8 came out. And then start the forum up and start selling Rx8 parts.

Damn it... i'm stupid. Have you guys seen the suspension on a rx8? it's pretty sweet, Short Long double A arm setup, should give a very nice camber curve, probably as good as the FD. Too bad the FC used a macphereson suspenion, the camber curve actually goes from negetive static towards positive as a function of vertical wheel displacement. Oh well...

I looked at one at the dealer today, and I gotta tell ya I'd take the new Mazdaspeed Miata over it anyday.
My biggest problem with the Miata is that they made it so it only fits midgets. When I sit in a Miata my head sticks above the top of the windshield. It's like a kiddie car.

Haven't been in an RX-8 yet, but I hope to hell the car has a little headroom.

BTW, I love the RX-8. Mazda made the 3rd gen. RX-7 and it sold like herpes. Companies can't make great cars that nobody buys They need a sales success, and give them credit for even trying to bring the rotary back to the states.

if more peopel knew how to drive rx8 woudltn be so slow to them.

most fd owners who only have owned an fd are in fact bastards, keep flames to yourself. i have had an fd and hated most fd owners while owning the car, coudlnt stand most of the crowd and its gettgin only worse. and to those who still thign rx8 is slower then the fd, shoudl go pound sand cause fd cant do half the **** rx8 can and its NOT SUPPOSED TO BE A DAMN FD, otherwise it would be one.

Welp, I'm new to the rotary world and I've asked my share of stupid questions, but if I dont ask, I'm never gonna learn. At least with the help of some I have started to learn what I need and wish I had been in on the rx-7 thing, but I'm happy with the 8. Damn good car for the money so far. Plus I'm a good candidate to see how they do with lots of miles, managing 13,000 in 6 1/2 months.

Yeah same here. I am looking at "How long are the coolant seals going to last" factor. 6 months and 16000 mile later.
