Here's the conclusion:

The RX-8 technically isn't the quickest car here, nor is it the best-handling or stopping. But it is competitive in every performance test without the compromises the outright "numbers-winning" setups so often produce--and our tester wasn't even the sport-suspension-equipped version. What it is, however, is the least-expensive, most-accommodationg, best all-around solution to having your uiniquely styled sport coupe and room for four adults. We thing it offers the best of both worlds with the fewest penalties. In some regards, the RX-8 is a small exoticar with marvelous engineering innovations. In other ways, it has the amenities and comfort of an everyday driver with the safety and warranty expected from a modern car--all while exhibiting a light, athletic feel and a strong value message. Teh RX-8 might be the unconventional choice here, but fresh thinking and unusual solutions to the fickle sport-coupe market just may keep its current entries around longer than its predecessor. And we have yet to see the hot-rodded MazdaSpeed supercharged RX-8

The did turning reaction times, braking, accel, lateral g's, and other stuff.

cool article, I love to see the 8 come out on top. After looking at some different cars, I think mazda is the only one concerned with making an overall car, instead of a pretty car that goes fast.

chock ANOTHER on up for the 8

Did they call up an insurance company to check rates?

One of the guys on the Canadian RX-7 club did, and he'd be paying a little more than half what I pay on my FD. We're about the same age and driving record.

Looks like the RX-8 has initially been classified 4-door, 4-seat and 238 HP. On paper, that puts it in with the Camry, Altima, Crown Victoria, Intrepid, Grand Prix etc....

yeah i love to see the rx-8 come on top. Out of all the magazines i read i havnt come across a bad review of the rx8, except for the Hp scandal which isnt such a big deal. Its an overall good car for sport,r acing and family use. aLSO REMEMBER that the rx-8 was in that competition on Road and Track and out of 25 cars it made it to the the top 5 which the public chooses to be the winner. So hopefully it wins. ITs going again tthe Bmw 530i the wrx sti, the porsche and some other car lool

Kudos to the 8

I have checked around and my insurance would only go up 20 dollars a month for an 8. I was majorly impressed.

I pay 100 a month now for an '03 Pontiac Vibe and I have a fairly clean driving record.

These cars are supposedly hella safe, or at least they have hella safety features.
