New Recall, Heat
#15
[quote name='Havoc' date='Jul 19 2005, 09:57 PM']They had something similar with the Mazda6 sedan. Ended up fitting a heatshield pad to the tank adjacent to the exhaust.
Ive not had any notification from MazdaNZ about the RX8 yet, and down here they are still on sale.

I didnt get any recall about the tank on the 6 needing a heat shield, there were very few of the first ones made that might have needed to be re-sealed up top accessable under the back seat, but mine was not included.
From what I was informed was that some of the covers for the top of the tank that access the fuel pump might have needed to be re-sealed.

I believe it's only the North American 8's that are having problems for some reason.
They're being recalled so Mazda can check for deformed body grommets (located above the exhaust) and a warped seam in the fuel tank. There is apparently a fix for the "Group 2" cars, but there is no fix for the "Group 1" cars yet. Go figure!

The recall was specific to Japan domestic models, imported into NZ.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Currently there is a recall notice for all Mazda6 and Mazda Atenza (Japanese Used Import) vehicles manufactured between 1 June 2002 and 14 February 2004 to enable modifications to be made to the fuel tank and indicators.
Information received from Mazda Japan indicates that under high ambient temperature the fuel tank insulator and exhaust pipe may interfere with each other, allowing the surface temperature of the fuel tank to increase, which may damage the surface of the plastic fuel tank. Given NZ conditions, the risk of damage to the fuel tank is minimal, however, as a precautionary measure we would like to fit a heatproof pad to the fuel tank.
With regard to the indicators there is a possibility they may intermittently stop working due to a poor electrical contact.
