Ok, so the renesis has an average exhaust system up until the high-tech crystal-whatever filter (I'm assuming it filters). I did a search on it but "anti-matter" and "flux capacitor" didn't return nuthin. Does anybody have any info or experience with this component? I'm wondering first how exactly it works (temp dependent like the cats?), what kind of backpressure it creates, and where it's located.

I'm trying to learn more about the 8 as I may be getting one next year. The only real competition in my opinion is the Evo8 and new Sti. I like the 8 better in most ways other than the go factor; I really want a turbo in the next ride, and don't know if it's the best idea to try to drop one in myself on a historically tempermental (to knock at least) boost fed engine. So, not previously having any personal experience with turbocharging, I'm trying to get a better idea of what complications might come about in strapping a one on. (Huh huh, strapping one on). I'm not too confident about the power available going N/A on a rotary; yall correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like there are less components that could yield more power if replaced or improved than on a recip motor.

Thx for the help.

I know there is a ton of envronmental **** that can be taken off and yeild more power. Given the pics i have seen of teh exahust system, I think there would be a substatial increase in power with a full exhaust system. I will try to find some pics and post them later.

Damn, that is huge. Is the rotary a naturally loud engine? I never noticed it. I'll try searching for some video or sound clips.

I guess the million dollar question is what the ECU will allow in terms of removing exhaust equipment before it pops the light. I would rather not hafta totally fool the ECU unless\until I get real serious about boost.

I know without cats it is loud as a ****. As for fooling the ECU, looks like we will have to wait and see what the aftermarket can give us in the way of legal exaust systems.

if you want to mod and play with turbo cars, get the EVO, a RX-8 and a Evo

arent in the same catagory. I dont even know what class a RX-8 fits into.

Its a bit pricey for its performance.

$26600 for a 250 HP 6 speed with 18" inch wheels is not a bad deal.

I had always thought (up until the new Protege) that in buying a Mazda you were paying for the well composed, well balanced nature. All new Mazdas (cars) that I know of are super nimble, and you pay for that advantage thru the price. I always thought that the MX3 was priced very high but it's a true driver's car (as long as you're short and narrow) and that is rare in this country. I guess the x factor in that equation is the new 6 - competitively priced, but does it have the trademark Mazda handling?

I agree though that in overall, objective terms the 8 offers as much value to a driver\owner as the EVO or Sti.

Ill believe that price when I see one sitting on a dealers lot.

I dont care what that web site says, the web site and the early press releases used to say that the Mazda 6 was going to be $22000 for one with a V-6 fully loaded, now the V-6 fully loaded is almost $25000.

And for $26,000 you can get a 280hp Nissan 350Z.
