This car is in Orlando, FL.

I have a tan 84 RX-7 with brown leather interior for sale. It has 140K miles, 5-speed, working air conditioning (cold!), working power windows, power mirrors, OE removable sunroof, brand new 185/70/13 tires (200 miles), and new Maaco paint job (less than a year old). I am the third owner, supposedly. It even has the original RX7 floormats.

The interior is in great shape, except for the driver's seat, which is torn in several spots. They sell special replacement covers in the Victoria British catalog to fix damaged leather seats. Both interior door panels are in perfect shape, with no tears, wrinkled spots, damaged carpeting, or anything else. The carpet itself could stand to be re-dyed, since it's sun faded. But the pile itself is fluffy and unworn. The hatch is missing the original carpeting, though. It was replaced with some black interior carpeting. Some of the plastic interior parts are sun dried and a bit flaky (in the rear hatch only, not the front). The console is undamaged and the stereo surround is in one piece. I installed the aftermarket stereo adapter in the dash, but never installed a stereo. The dash itself is beautiful. No cracks or fading. The headliner is in good shape as well. Both power mirrors work, and the cruise control works great. As I said before, the air conditioning works like new ( it was replaced a few years ago with all new hardware, judging from the looks of the hoses, etc ).

Externally, it looks great as well. People compliment me everywhere I went with the car. Gas stations, Walmart, auto parts stores, driving in stop and go traffic. One person yelled out his window while we were crawling through traffic, "What kind of car is that?". I said, "It's an RX-7." He said, "it's BEAUTIFUL!!" The body has no dents, no wheel well rust, no scrapes or scratches, and all external parts are present. The wheels need refinishing, as the clearcoat is peeling. The tires are all new.

Mechanically, it's in pretty good shape. The AIR pump and catalytic have been removed. It has an "off road" pipe in place of the cat. The "rat's nest" has been removed, except for the A/C solenoid. It recently had an alignment and the steering is light (very easy to turn the wheel, even while not moving). It has 1.5" of play in the wheel, but what 1st gen doesn't? On the highway at 80 mph, it's smooth as silk. No shakes or shimmies.

Seeing as how it's a 20 year old car, it has some little problems. The transmission is a little notchy. Still shifts fine through all the gears. The throw-out bearing is a bit noisy when sitting at idle with the clutch pedal push in. The clutch assembly or flywheel may need to be rebalanced. It has a minor vibration between 2k and 3K rpm. Below or above that, it's smooth. Since it has the stock muffler, it's a bit noisy without a catalytic. Some people like it, but I prefer a quieter sound. The beehive oil cooler has a minor leak. The carb is in need of a rebuild, causing a minor misfire at idle only. The motor idles at a rock solid 700 rpm. The turn signal assembly needs to be fixed. The spring that keeps the lever centered came loose and now the lever won't center.

The ride is a tiny bit bouncy at times. The original owner replaced the shocks with MIDAS brand ones, and they SUCK. The car still handles fantastic. There are a couple tiny (1/2") rust spots just under the lip of the rear bumper cover, one small (1/2"X1/4") spot near the middle of the hatch, and a couple bubbles on the hood. All could be easily fixed with some touch up paint. The underside of the hood has some rust areas that need to be brushed off and primered to be safe.

The car starts easily and runs strong. I drove it every day for a couple months after buying it and it did not smoke at startup. It's been sitting for another month or so and when I started it last week it smoked for a bit before clearing up. The oil seals are holding quite well for their age.

Overall, it's a nice ride that needs just a little work or customization.

I am selling it because I bought a 1995 Z28 literally last month.... 3 months after buying the RX7!! I flew from Orlando to North Carolina to buy the RX-7 and drove it back to Florida. What a trip that was! Every time I stopped to get gas or food, some guy was coming up to me to ask me about the car. Someone offered to buy the car from me 30 minutes after I BOUGHT the car!!

Now my wife is complaining that I have too many cars, so I have to choose. I love the Seven, but the Z28 is faster, more comfortable, and gets slightly better gas mileage.

Here are some pictures. The interior pics didn't come out so great.

I am looking to get $1600 for it.

Any takers?
