You can also lean to lean of stoich, as well.
Volvo is using EGR in lieu of water injection to be able to run stoichiometric mixtures under boost. EGR and water injection do essentially the same thing, only water injection doesn't use up as much combustion space, yet EGR never runs out of working fluid.
