the one that is pitted may still be usable if its lapped or surfice ground the one with the chip i would be leary of but i have seen guys use jb weld to fill the water jackets before to repair the chipped jackets.

Mazda would never admit that the grooves in the cast iron was a stupid idea, And for the FD went back to grooves in the aluminum where anyone buying machine tooling would have kept them.

Load up the back side of the damage with JB Weld or other mechanical epoxy. Wait 2 days, Then with a diamond file reduce the outer edge of the groove along the damaged area about .001". Then using course lapping compound or valve grinding compound, lap the irons against each other. The rear iron against the rear of the center iron and the front against the front of the center iron.

You can do this by hand. It will take a full day. Or, you can build a wobble gizmo, then do this with a big drill press with a very low speed setting or a mill. Use whatever your compound is thinned with to keep things wet.

There is another method that involves milling out the bad section, and replacing it with a small piece of iron epoxied into place then remilling the groove. Or, you can knock off the outer groove wall for about 1/2" and build it up with braze, and remilling the groove.

Clean the irons in the solvent tank and take them to the car wash, and clean them inside and out. Dry them off and spray on WD-40.

thanks a million i was getting pretty bummend about these seeing i just paid the 400 machine shop bill for cleaning all of the engine. Now please correct me if im wrong but i understand i need to fill the chipped out water jacket and then file it down, lapp the two irons on each other. if so the pitting area i have on the iron is right where the chip is when i put them together does that matter. i have a diamond lapping stone that is 3 x 12 that i lapp sharpening stone for my straight razors could i use that lapping stone.

as for the pitted area i should just lap it until its withen specs on the fsm? or fill it epoxy and lapp it then im sorry if i seem confused but i slightly am when it comes to the pitting and i dont want to mess this up.

i had plans for a mild street port on these irons is that still in the picture or out of the question?

you mentioned a wobble homemade device any pictures of said awesome tool?

thanks alot for your input i hope someday i will be the one helping noobs like myself out.
