Hi everyone, New here, i don't have a Rotary yet, but i'm thinking about buying one to do a rat truck style build and i really don't know anything about them so i figured i would find some place like this to get info.

First off, the Idea. Taking a Gen I dodge dakota (flat grill), RC/SB, and drop in a carbed rotary and a 6spd, slam the whole thing to the weeds, and paint it with some chalkboard flat black.

Rotary's have allways facinated me, and i when i have interest in something i always want to get hands on.

Now, my question. how cheap can i find a rotary? how cheap would it be to put a carb on it?

I plan on tearing into it and giving it a good comb through, and i might think about porting it.

This is going to be EL CHEAPO build. i plan on finding the truck for <$500.

Welcome to nopistons!

Earlier rotaries came with a carb from the factory. If you don't know anything about them, you might want to get a used running engine first, finish the build, then think about upgrades once you know how the power (or lack thereof) feels in your truck.

There are different engine choices (mainly 12a and 13b if you're looking at carbing), 13b is bigger, generally more power. Racing Beat sells a carb conversion, there are different choices based on what kind of carb you want to use.

I have access to a holly 750 4bbl from a ford 460, is that way to big of a carb?

other than that i would be buying the car just for it. and i agree with the build it, then MAKE it. this is going to be my cheap toy, the one i can pull the engine out of for 3 months and not feel a pinch.

where should i start my search for an older NA 13b?

EDIT

wow, i just looked at the carb intakes on racing beats. they are like $800+ O.O

Are they something i can find used? or is that even rarer?

i prefer webers just as a personal preference. if you need to stay on the cheap go with a 12a. it already had a nikki 4 barrel carb and sterlingmetalworks.com has a wealth of info on modifying the carb for racing applications
