go to some auto shops and see what they use. when i worked fixing busses we had some biodegradable crap...we called it mr. bubble, but i'm not sure what the actual name is... aqueous solvents are becoming the norm.
around here all we can use are the water based bubbly stuffs, everything else is "too bad for the environment"

I also have a parts washer with Mineral Spirits. Heres a couple tricks to maintain Cleanliness:

I put about 1/4 water in the bottom of my parts washer.
Water is more dense than solvent, so it spearates into layers. All of the dirt and grime seems to mix in with the water and settle to the bottom while the solvent stays clean. My washer pump pickup is above the water line.
When I decide to clean it, I siphon off almost all of the solvent, and then drain the water with the drain plug.
Rarely need to buy new solvent, and it stays really clean.

yea, that's the stuff. it isn't TOO bad though.

I justed used Kerosene in a couple of large plastic tubs. Just let the housings and rotors sit for a couple of days and then cleaned them. Drys your hands out a little but nothing a bit of moisturiser can't fix.
