I was looking at different rebuild kits, and ran across a few things on the rotary aviation kit. I went to their site and they claim to be the best thing ever, so I figured I'd find out if their claims had anything to back them

Has anyone here used their apex seals, or the full kit? I am looking at the 2mm seals for a s5 n/a.

And, do you think they will hold up in a high compression turbo motor? I am planning on running a T04E or T28 turbo on a 9.7:1 compression motor, its will either be a large streetport, or possible half bridge. I'm just wondering if these seals can take that kind of abuse.

Also, what do you think about the hurley or atkins seals? anything?

While I can't actually speak from experience yet as my seals are still in transit, i've only heard good things about them...

And you should maybe do a little bit more research on your turbocharger selection.. any T28 you'll find anywhere will be markedly too small for any rotary.. _WAY_ too small...

A t04 is a good thing though

I'm sure the rotary aviation seals would take the 'abuse', so long as its tunned corectly... High compression motors do not have very much headroom for tunning error as low compression motors do.

A t28 is too small? hmm, arent they the ones off of the s15 silvia? I figured that'd be enough, guess not, thanks!! glad i didn't waste my money.

Yes they do come standard on S15's, aswell as most S14's aswell, and yes they are definatly way too small, they're a good sized turbo for a modern 2ltr 4cyl running <14psi... a 13b pushes out more exhaust than even a 2.6ltr 4cyl, so yeah, definatly not a good choice

Either a stock S5 or a T04 with a good external wastegate system will be fine... much more expensive than a stock turbo though, I guess it all depends on how much power your after.

i'm wanting to be in the 550 to 600 hp range, but thats kinda dreamin, I'd be happy with 450 to 500. How much can the stock turbo support on the high compresson motor?

Ok for that sorta power your looking at _at least_ a 66-1 T04....

Any sort of stock turbo is out of the question at those sort of power levels... Stock S4/5 turbos have a hard enough time keeping stock boost right upto redline.. So definatly wouldn't even come close to supprting 400hp

rebuild "kits"are basically just a combo of mazda parts put together so it's more convienent so saying it's the "best" isn't really accurate. aviation seals are said to be awesome, prolly best bet with price considered as well. if you want 400hp you might as well just be better off getting a normal t2 engine and getting a decent sized to4 turbo. if this is a side project (meaning you have lot's of time/cash/and a daily driver) a turbocharged engine with n/a rotors would prolly fit your application, but in reality it is basically nothing better than to use it as braggin rights. the high compression will only help you in the low/mid range and in many people's opinion who have done it say that it's not really worth the work. especially if you are into drag or autox whatev. because you will be in higher revs the majority of the time. either way good luck and check out the faq in the single turbo section and others before you decide.

I used their kit on my six port NA street port rebuild. I liked the seals and kit in general, but the teflon encapsulated silicon compression O rings were a little tight. I haven't had any problems at all with the engine. It has 4k miles on it, pulls about 17 in vacuum at 750 rpm idling, and the car certainly feels faster than the stock TII I just drove, for whatever that is worth. It starts right up every time.
