REW flywheel to 11k?
#1
Ive got a Pport engine that I will be using an entire FD rotating assembly with. Will the stock FD flywheel survive at 11k? Or am I asking to have my legs chopped off? This is for a drag car, not road racing.

I used just a flex plate held on the auto trans counter weight with the clutch cover bolts. You would think that the
small mass involved would survive any RPM. Not so...........Bits of the starter ring gear vanished. Some pieces held on with one end and the other end sawed almost all the way through the bell housing. The clutch spacer broke into 6 pieces. I would invest in a SEMA rated flywheel and a blanket. We were not required to run a shield because the plane of the flywheel is ahead of the toe box. I made the right side of the toe box out of 1/2" 7075-T651 anyway.
Even the pressure surface of the clutch can escape the cover, and help cut the car into two pieces. The pieces are still lethal 100 yards away.
I saw half of a Mazda flywheel stuck in the track surface at Indianapolis. Took an hour to get it out. This is a safety feature you do not short change. Check with other drag racers to see what they are using.
