I need help guys... Just got the Rotary aviation master rebuild kit... Was about to put everything together when i noticed there is a scratch on one of my rotor housings.. The scratch is 1.5" away from the exhuast port and is not very deep but it can be felt if i move my finger over it....

Its the same with one of my intermediate housings... Slight scratch near the corner long but not deep... else is all good...

I called a few people up and might get a better rotor housing still not sure if i will... But no intermediate housing available... should i go ahead with the rebuild with these housings... Please recommend....

Need help

Thanks

Where exactly is that scratch again? Is it on the very edge?

u are talking about the iron or rotor housing, if its the iron then u need to measure it with a micrometer.

Ok just got a good rotor housing... Used but looks good no scratches no marks...

But need to know if both the rear and front rotor housings are the same... how do i tell if they are different which one is the front one and which one is the rear one...

I hope they are both the same...

The intermediate housing has a slight scratch can that be used?? its very minor

The rotor housings could have a "F" or "R" stamped on the top. In reality they could be swapped. You just have to watch for EGR ports under the exhaust ports being on the wrong side if you use them.

As for the scratched plate, if there's metal sticking up above the level of the plate carefully file it down. If the scratch only just catches your nail it might be okay. Obviously no scratch is preferable. I've never used a scratched plate or housing but then I've always had plenty of spares...

Possible downsides are: oil consumption (depends where scratch is), loss of compression and possibility of seal catching on scratch.

You gotta ask yourself: what caused the scratch in the first place, and what can I do to rectify it? Do you have large or poor intake porting? If a seal is getting caught by poor positioning of the intake port, it could be causing a scratch on the plate in which case you really wanna address that issue first.

It almost sounds as if your motor swallowed something tho.

Thanks...The scratch does not even catch a finger nail... if i rub my finger tip over it a little hard then i can feel the scratch... it is visivle though...

Yipee so i can use the good rotor housings....

I think i know what caused the scratch... I had a leaking oil metering line... thats the culprit i think....

So now i have changed both the rotor housings and am using two good intermediate and side housings with just one side housing with a minor scratch...
