Beast way to build a exshust on a VW is to go ower the gearbox, then you will get a longer system, the one you have built will not pass the noice test on the traks, i knowe, i have a VW whit rotary engine and you nead 2 mufflers to get 100 db.

'the engine has been fired up it fired up after 3-4 sec of cranking. It idles between 700-800 rpm.

I`m going to dyno it in a week or so. I`ve had some minor problems making the driveshaft between the waterbrake and the engine, but it seems to be solved now

How do I post sound files? I`ve got a file of the engine at idle I can post.

And yes it`s very loud, si I think I will have to make a new ex. system.

Cheers

Make a smal MP3 (under 500kB), then convert it to a zip file. Then upload it to this thread. Here is an example. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/index.php?...75&#entry527672

On my race car I have a 24" primary to the collector, and a 20" megaphone to a 4" ID muffler and out through the passenger door sill in 4". Because I have room for it. About 100 DB. Sounds good, and runs good.

A few years back, the national champion had 11" primaries when I was still running a 102" system. But I am getting smarter now.

hi Lynn, I am trying to understand your reason to switched from 102" to 24" primary system.

your useful RPM is between 8000 to 9800 with your race tranny right? so I am guessing you got better area under the curve from the 24" for your RPM range?

what was the 102" torque peak rpm at? is it 102" better suite for motor red line at 8000?

I am trying to decided if a short or long primary header is better for my SP motor redline at 8000 with stock tranny.

24" short primary has weight and packaging advantages obviousely, but I might not have the rpm nor tranny to take advantage of it.

sorry for bringing out this old thread, I read all your threads twice and can't let this one get away from me

thank you

The 102" system was from the BF Goodrich Racing Stocks series sanctioned by IMSA, For 12A engines with Cheater bridge ports. The stock wide ratio trans requires a rather broad torque band. Probably down to 5,500 RPM, and 2nd is the lowest gear you could use anywhere, and even that would have to be a tight turn.

So most racing was with 3rd-4th and 5th.

With a shorter primary and larger intake runners, the peak torque moves up the range so that the spread between peak torque and best power is shorter.

So anything below 7,500 RPM and we are down to 218 HP, 26 HP off the peak power.

Trade a strong bottom end for peak power any chance you get.

thank you sir.

as for the long primary, how to choose between 96' to 98' , and 102'?

I have space constrain here. I roughly measured my 89 rx7 underbody to see if, a system of 100' of primary+a long mega phone+30" muffler, will fit within the bumper, it looked like not possible.

I wonder how you managed to fit your old 102" system under?

Not a problem, under an RX-2. Muffler sticking out under the bumper.

now if I choose 96" to 98" primaries with one size smaller tubing like 17/8, will I get the same effect as a 102" with 2" primary system?

I might able to get this system to fit with 96" primaries.

where was the street course?
