hylomar vs. crisco. vs. vasoline

i have always used Hylomar to keep the water jackets and o-rings in place. and vasoline to hold in seals and to coat all the housings and plates for start up. never had a problem with it. but its always trouble to order more exspensive hylomar when i use it all up. i've heard of people using vasoline in the water jacket areas as well. does the vasoline hurt or wear on the jackets and rubber o-rings at all?
also, what about using crisco instead of vasoline to coat the housings and plates. and also to hold seals, jackets, and o-rings in place. any difference, or does it not really matter... im rebuilding another motor and dont feel like ordering some hylomar. so i was just going to use vasoline. but i was wondering about the crisco. never tried it before...

i was joking since you said you already found the answer.. i use vasoline for almost all of it when i build engines. For the rubber seals, i use turbine engine assembly lube... no kidding. It's the stickiest stuff on earth and it melts away into nothing when the engine gets hot.

I found Hylomar to be a complete joke! used it once, threw rest away into bin. Petroleum jelly is nice as an **** lube for the rough ladies you pick up at a bar, but not much chop in an engine either!
The stuff I have used for over 10 years now is made by Dow Corning and its other specialist company called Molycote and the product is 111 Valve and O'ring lubricant, it is a translucent non hardening silicone. Once you use this you will NEVER EVER use any other inferior product. You can thank me after you try it :-)
On the legs and pan Three Bond Grey (Japanesse OEM sealant Mazda use) is all that should be used, far superior to any other product in my experience.
