worth it...at only 100 bucks, it cant be that bad. any noticible power differences? tuning needed?



and this got me thinking...



what if i used a oil/powersteering style cooler instead of the can. so the fuel was always being cooled. even add a fan the the cooler. instead of just when there was ice in the can. refilling ice constantly can be a pain and start to become exspensive (refering to a daily driver) i havnt seen anyone do this before. but that dosnt mean it will not work.....



this could be a very cheap way to ad some HP, even run higher boost without detonation.

it is not a bad idea for an all out drag car or auto X car it cant hurt anything might even give your fuel pump a longer life from the cooler flow going through it but the one in the link is not good for a DD there are some that you put inline and it mounts to the frame and i would say work just as good. I really dont see cooler fuel giving you a big decrease in intake temps maybe with the ice one you would but it is not so much with the frame mounted air to fuel cooler. it does give you something more to add to your mods list.

those little trick pieces like a fuel cooler just make the car more complete i am putting a frame one one just as an add on but not considering it a performance mod.

Where do you plan on mounting the tranny cooler look-a-like?

Seeing how the fuel is already cooler than the temps under hood, it could just as easily be a fuel heater rather than a cooler if not mounted properly.

 

same place you would mount most things. some where in the front...

 

That would make for a serious problem in a normal fender bender.

Why not put it in the rear of the car, such as in front of the rear, in that space between the fender and the muffler? Just put a heavy screen over it to protect it from rocks.



I have always questioned the need for these. Cold fuel is hard to atomize, which is why engines have to run richer until they are up to temperature. There is certainly a point when the fuel being too hot will make the engine more prone to detonation, but on a modern fuel injection, esp one flowing enough fuel to supply a decent amount of hp, I dont think the fuel will be near the engine long enough get too hot.



Has anyone actually seen these successfully used? Just because a part is available doesnt mean its good. Ebay is a wonderful example of that.

 

i have never seen it ran before. especially my idea to use the oil style cooler.



i was just wondering if anyone else had. i asked this same question in a musclecar forum. a few guys there have ran the cans with crushed dry ice. one said the fuel temp dropped 40 degrees! but its looking to me to be a waste of time unless this was used in a race only car. a bit of a hassle and an overkill for a daily driver.

 

I suspect the fuel in the tank will eventually get pretty hot running though 2 fuel rails and a huge fuel pump. To top things off the tank sits between two hot *** mufflers(in the FC). Its gotta be bad for tunning...



I think a cooler is a benefit. Mounting can be tricky, but anything is better than nothing.
