those small turbos are not good for 9k the air will be to hot at that rpm, and your power curve will drop after 7k a better flowing turbos and ext. wastegates. that will help power at 9k rpm. don't forget to tell the turbo builder that they will be seeing duty at 9k rpm so they can be tested to speed.

explain a little more please...you are making use of 9k rpms?
Ive got a n/a. S5 6 port engine with a lot of porting, and the mods necessary to make it reliable at 9k rpm.

The turbos will be your problem. If you go with a big single, youll make power to 8500-9k on a ported engine. On stock twins, dont expect power past 6500-7000.

thanks for the input...okay so stocker twins (&manifolds) are the biggest bottle neck in my case.

What I'm gathering is...the internals should be good to 9k, please correct me if I'm wrong.

MazdaSpeed7: What did you do to your 6-port to get it to handle and also make power at 9k rpms? I have been wanting to beef up my S5 NA for a while, and I am still waiting for Judge Ito's 6-port BP templates.

MazdaSpeed7: I'd like to know too. I have an s4 N/A that I would like to push a little more. Not quite to 9k, but somewhere up there.

Thnx

Andy

Take a stock car, trash everything thats bolted to the engine that handles intake air, exhaust gas, and fuel. Add standalone, and make new ones of everything you took off before.

The big stuff is a ported engine, with a lot of exhaust porting(no sleeve), custom exhaust, including headers, standalone, and a custom intake manifold. Im still running on the stock intake manifold for the time being, and its severely limiting power. Im kinda undecided on the intake manifold though, because I want somethign very different for the car than what it is now. This engine is for sale for that very reason(see sig).

It moves pretty well, I put 2 cars on a 4.6l mustang GT by the top of 2nd with a friend riding with me last week. Im still working on the tuning as well, Im sure theres more power to be had just in the fuel, let along getting rid of that horrible S5 intake manifold. Im also at the safe limits of the stock 460 cc injectors. I hit 85% on primaries and secornaries just before 9k rpm.

If you want to build a car up as funds permit, do yourself a favor and let a standalone be your first mod. The drivability on a stock ecu goes to **** after just a couple of mods. My car was horrible before I got the megasquirt in. Noone else could drive my car. I couldnt drive it smooth all the time, and Ive driven the car for over 4 years.

My thoughts on modding cars have changed dramatically throughout owning this car. If I could go back and do it all again, I would have left my car completely stock, or at most, a cat-back and intake. Once you change one thing, you start a vicous cycle where it will need something else to be changed or modified, then another. And in the end, it will never run as well as stock until you have changed everything, and everything is designed to work well together, just like a stock car. Im getting close to the drivability of a stock car now, with considerably more power, but there is not a single thing I havent modified, changed, tweaked, or replaced to get there.
