(please point me in the right direction if there is already info out there)



My motor is apart at the moment...but that seems like the best time to get set-up (or get schooled).



I'd like to have a 9k redline, what should to be done?



I had my rotors and counter weights balanced by Rick Engman...and I should have discussed this with him, but the idea of having a 9k redline didn't come to me until I was home going over the work. (if all else fails...I'll go pick his brain some more)



Other work/specs on the motor:

Irons were lapped (street ported)

Exhaust street ported

RA 2mm seals

Solid corners

OMP removed along with emissions

Full Non-Seq (stock tt)

ALL bolt-ons

light weight flywheel (duh...counter weight"s")



that's all that's coming to me at the moment...



I remember reading that the tranny is the limiting factor to redline, any truth to that statement?



Anyhew...to the dicussion: WHAT should be done to prepare or maybe better yet, how to keep the torque curve up so I can make power up there???

Yes, I know that...I don't exactly feel like bothering Rick with my 13B applications, catch my drift? I'd like to at least have "some" knowledge under my belt about the issue before I go back up there. So, I thought I'd ask here...

If its an REW block, nothing really needs to be done. You already have the best engien bearings for high rpm, the hardened stat gears, and the high oil pressure. Other than that, its mostly a clearance thing.



Am I forgetting anything?

Which clearances are you refering too? e-shaft??



any other ones?



opinions on the #200 oil jet mod and high RPMS? would the REW block need even HIGHER OPR to compensate at idle/low rpms?

Horsepower is really dropping beyond 7000RPM thanks to the stock intake design. You might want to really port it out, but then your turbo housing is probably choking your motor at high RPM anyway. Even a half bridge, ported intake and BIG honkin' turbo may only move the power peak to 7500.



That blue line is boostn7, a very fast stock turbo car! The others are some pretty healthy sized single turbos. You can see they're all dropping.



For PEAK POWER reasons only, there is no reason to go to 9000RPM. There are other good reasons though.

I appreciate the leg work work Tyson (nice chart). I knew that was going to be an issue, that's why I was also inquiring about keeping the torque curve up into the high rpms.



Maybe I'm reaching/dreaming here, but why not?



I do see your point about the turbo manifold being the bottle neck (I remember talking with Bryan at BNR about this same thing) at high rpms...so a possible solution could be a custom turbo manifold with something that flows a little better than stock twins. I like the twins and will be keeping the car twin turbocharged.



how do ball bearing turbochargers perform at high rpm's??? Anyone have experience?



Also any info on N20 at high rpms would be nice. Any thoughts?

Nitrous + boost + high rpm = boom



Ball bearing turbos would have little, if any advantage at high rpm.



If you want to make power to 9K rpm, plan on big exhaust ports, lots of overlap, and a large turbo. Stock twins will NOT do 9k rpm for long. And the manifold isnt the problem, its the turbos themselves. They simply cant flow enough to support 9k rpm.



The clearances I was referring to are the seal to seal and seal to housing clearances on the rotors.

It takes a lot to make use of 9K rpm. And Ive been loving every minute of it...
