hi

what i am going to use clover oil based lapping compound what grade / grit should i use for the lapping

14 micron or 17 micro?

I never had any real lapping compound. I used valve grinding compound. Since the pieces are so big, the unit pressure will be very low. So I would start with the course stuff.



You want an oil holding surface. Not shiny.

ok so u just use valve grind compound so i guess medium grit should be good i will do some testing i just need an idea as to what grit / grade i am looking i would buy a few tins i know i am looking for a dull finish so i shall ask i think a 17 micron grit should work though i will test

OK so i did some brazing on the plates , well i tried lol i preheated the plate to about 300-400 deg C before brazing , i used some flux that was for some other application + i have no brazing skills what so ever this was my first time , at least i did one jacket ok , i took a pencil graner and ground the edges of the jacket then started to braze here are my results below , after brazing i wraped the plate in rockwool (insulation ) so it would cool gradualy the next day i took out the plate and checked for any warps it was stright as a pin (lovely ) then i started to file down the brass













This was jus a test i will use a orbital grider and flatten out the brass and before i start brazing again this is going to take a very long time to get these plates back to how i want them
