Which is better for autocross? Ill be running coilovers, and this is for my 90 GTU.

Your opinion doesn't count..cuz you're an eggplant..

Anyone with Konis?

Jims5543 08-31-2003 08:18 PM

I dont know much about the Koni's but in most cases you get what you paid for. Koni is a very reputable company. I have the KYB - AGX and love them.

i've heard that koni shocks blow seals fairly often, compared to other shocks at least. however, i think that the konis come with a lifetime warantee. what are the prices on each set?

mazdaspeed7 08-31-2003 09:48 PM

I dont remember prices offhand, but I wont be paying anywhere near list for either brand, anyways.

I am a Tokico fan myself, but my opinion doesn't count because I have their base line "HP" struts which aren't adjustable, but a lot firmer than stock. There is a guy on the club with a full set of RB springs and Tokico Illuminas for sale for $450 . . . mmmmm . . . but I am not ready to ditch my Eibach springs until I know that they are holding me back on the course. Driver skill appears to be the biggest factor to auto-x times. Good driver skill can shave 10 seconds off a run, but struts and springs might give you a couple seconds at most. Of course, they won't do much without full camber adjustability and sticky tires.

Because of my engine mods, Im not going to be in anything even resembling a stock class. I already have coilovers, but Im looking to get new shocks and some stiffer springs in the near future.

Im kinda debating going with a full coilover setup, like the JIC. With what it costs to get camber plates, shocks and springs, it wont cost a lot more to go with a matched set.

I'm with you on being in SM2 or some other modified class. My relocated battery puts me in mod automatically. Without that I would be in prepared due to engine porting, but really, it doesn't matter to me. Top time is always the goal! I have to beat my friend with the ASP FD who usually owns the events around here.
