lol...

drift is based on style. By opening the door thats a "trick" they get style points for. Such as putting one hand out the window.. or 2 hands.. etc..

it shows that you have alot of car control because your only driving with one hand going 70 mph sideways and your holding the door open, not an easy task.

OK can we PLEASE get beyond the door opening thing on this forum. Where are you guys seeing this **** at? I would guess from the Drift Xtreme video or something. Nobody is opening the door at 70mph and drifting. that is like 140km/h.....hmmm at Fuji they blip in to those speeds for a moment while drifting but I can promise you nobody has or will open the door.

Pleae drive down the frickin road at 70mph in a straight line and attempt to open your door........ Pretty hard to do just from wind resistance. Next there are no points awarded in any drift competitions I know of from opening the door. Mabybe back in the 80's when the Japanes used to decorate thier cars from everything like spiderman to giant spiders and the speeds were really slow but the world has evolved from those ignorant days. In another thread on this forum Tezuka is drifting at Fuji........that is a 60-70mph drift........no imagine him opening the door That was the furthest thing from his mind. I am pretty sure that the door hinges would break.

So I am asking to not hear about this bullshit anymore. It is fun to play with sometimes just to see if you can do it........say when you are doing a doghnut around a cone or something but if you are that good then you should move on to bigger and better things.

very good points Ranzo. i do have a video clip on my comp of a gold s13 'vert doing the door open thing. it looks cool but he is also only doing it when he is doing doughnuts, not full out drifts.

I've seen it in a few option vids Randy..but they were low speed drifts, and it wasn't in the D1 either its was one of the amature vids and one of the street drift vids I have. Now I have seen the D1 drivers do it a few dvds I have but they are screwing around and not compeating..just play, and funny enough its only when they come here that they do that.

Now I have to agree THE DO NOT DO THAT IN A SERIOUS COMPETITON. it would get them no more points..It might get one of the judges to have the guy re-run over and over and over again until he crashes...I have seen them do that before.

the door open thing is like what people where I lived used to do..they would stand in the curb on the inside of the corner have a friend support them the raise one leg up and out over the curb so the good local drivers could put there hoods under them. very dangerous and stupid. its all for local fame

Oh I know I have done it before as well. One thing we try to do is have a cone in the middle and then put one finger on the cone and go around it as many times a possible keeping your hand/finger on the cone. This is VERY hard first cuz you can barely reach the cone anyway......especially with a bucket seat and two because that means the cone is in the center of your car and not at the bumper so it is hard to keep your door that close to the cone while rotating around it.

Its all fun! My reason for saying that is because some new guys are gonna read that and thing oh this is drift and the more retarded **** you do the better and that is not the direction of drift nowdays, that is the only reason I said anything. I like doing retarded ****.......im kinda famous for it...... but nowdays in Keichii's D1 you get no points for doing dumb ****. I mean dirt drops used to be the **** cuz you were way wide and just hanging the back tires in the dirt was hard to control and so on. Now if you do dirt drops they just kinda laugh and say NEXT!

That is not to say that some other group won't start a Drift Event where those things are allowed and doing crazy stuff gets you points though who knows..... Either way it fun and good practice
