Hi All.



I am going to remake my V-Mount IC on my T2.



Unfortunatly the Rad i've bought has a Filler cap on it so putting it lower than the engine may cause me problems.



Today i was thinking about it today. Can you see any big disadvantages with putting the Ic at the Bottom?



If i angle the Ic (bit like a stock FD's rad) and put the rad nearly square upto the Ft panel then did a load of Ducting and piping would it work?



I have always thought the rad at the bottom way of doing it was asking for big heat soak as heat rises but if i duck it well i can duct the IC back out under the engine into the fast flowing air.



What do you guys think?

The best reason I can think of right now as to why the radiator is on the bottom, is because of the air that would get trapped in the thing if it was mounted at the top.



Plus it looks better than looking at running fans.



The piping would not be as strait forward of natural.



And if it is ducted correctly, it wont matter where it is placed as the air is literally being forced through the cores, and they only flow so much at a given pressure.



A Vmount is a really good way to go, because it is helping 2 big contributors to efficiency.



1 the net air temperature running over the 2 individual cores is decreased, temperature is the driving force behind any thermal energy transfer.



2 the amount of net air flowed through the cores will easily increase, as there is less restriction per core as the volumetric flow rate is inversely proportional to restriction.



Add these two facts together with identically sized cores and the question which one is better is clear. But there are other factors that influence choices, but overall there defiantly is a better choice given these facts.

You can pretty much mount them whichever way you want so long as the IC gets air before the radiator. If you do mount the radiator lower than the engine, don't forget that you wont be able to fill it up any more. I'm not familiar with rotaries, but depending on where the thermostat housing is you may be able to fill it up there, otherwise you're going to have to duct in a new filler.
