well, the GTUs has been sold.

I bought a 91 MR2 Turbo, and man am I ever happy. I'm sorry, but I like it sooooo much more than the FC. I am gojng to keep it stock forever. All it's got now is a turbo timer and a short shift kit (the previous owner put them in). I can't believe how fast it is. Sure, it can be beaten by some cars, but it has plenty of power for me. I love every aspect of the car more than my 7. On a scale of 1 to 10 for how much I enjoy driving it (10 being best). I'd put the GTUs at 7, and the MR2 at 45 .

It's just my opinion, I know some of you like the FC more, but it's my car and I love it. I could not possibly be happier with my purchase.

 

I'd go with a TII.

Actually, the '91-'92 MR2s had really bad snap oversteer, but this was addressed by significant suspension changes in the '93+ models. You can tame the back end on the pre-'93 models as well with some judicious suspension tuning (a big front sway bar is a good place to start).

if you just want straight line speed you can swap in a 1mf V6....(im pretty sure thats the engine code for it)

 

if all I wanted was straight line power I would've bought a supra. I like the handling and the feel of the car. It's so small and feels so balanced. I said in my previous post that I like "every aspect more than my FC", meaning speed, handling, feel, styling, etc.

 

Including the fact that it has pistons too apparently...

 

I know this is too late but at the local Autocross there is a guy that races a very modded MR-2 it has close to 400RWHP and has a full racing suspension. I mop him up at every Autocross. He talked a lot of smack when he was prepping it for its 1st Autocross. He even wanted me to switch classes to Street Modified 2 I was going to until he saw how bad I was beating him so he complained to the timing people and had me bumped back to my real classing B-Prepared.



They are sweet cars but a TII will whip it in handling every day.

 

what suspension mods do you have? If you're beating him that bad with stock or stock-replacement suspension then it's just a matter of driver skill. It's probably just driver skill more than anything anyway. Mid-engine cars are harder to drive so skill comes into play even more.

In my opinion the MKII MR2 is superior to the FC. Plus, when I bought it I didn't just buy it for performance. I don't autocross, I don't drag, etc. I just drive on the street, so even if the TII was better I still wouldn't care. My RX-7 had stiff assed suspension and handled very well, but even with that suspension my MR2 stills feels like it handles better with its stock, original suspension.



And yes, I still think the rotary is a really cool engine design, but I've made my choice. The only way I would ever buy another rotary is if I bought an FD, and that's just because the FD is an awesome car in general. I would actually prefer it if the FD was a piston engine car.



This thread is pointless now. I've already sold the 7, bought the 2, and I'm happy. All of the posts from now on will be you guys telling me how the FC is so much better, etc and I won't care because even if I thought for a second that the FC was better for performance I would still rather have my MR2.
