There's a guy in Sweden who builds these 10 valve turbo fives up to over 700hp. They are pretty bullet proof.

And the quattro will be nice in New England. Actually wherever and whenever conditions aren't perfect. Launching with one or two wheels on a gravel patch? It doesn't care . . . just grips and goes.

J
i wouldn't mind a 5000 TQ daily driver with like 300HP
actually they did have a quattro with 306hp but it wasnt a 5000, it was a quattro sport somewhere back in the 80's, but it was made for racing and plus theyre were very few made and when i say few i mean a FEW. but anyways the only 5000 turbo that even got to 160hp was the 86-87 model :bigthumg:
your talking about the audi turbo quattro coupes.... i'd like one of those but they are $$$$$$$$$ $10k for a nice one!!!!!!!!

rather get a 5000TQ for $1k
Yeah but for $10K you can build one nasty big *** screamer. Those engines rule all.
i wouldn't say that but they are pretty good for an old school engine

thanks for the responses. My dad got mad at me and sold my rx7.
then it was never really your rx7, was it?

title must have been in his name.

way to let him do that.

grow a sack, kid.

good luck with your next car.

i would avoid turbo eclipses as they're reputed to have weak drivetrains- especially the gsx.

85-89 Merkur XR4Ti, 175hp stock, cheap (less than $1000) and still good aftermarket support because it shares motors with the SVO Mustang. Factory forged pistons and rods and cosworth LSD rear end. Downside, doesn't come with intercooler, and Tranny only handles 225ftlb torque, so a Borg-Warner T5 upgrade would be needed if heavily modiftying. Upgrade intercooler, intake, air meter, and exhaust. You can get 300hp out of it pretty easily. And they weight 2950 fully loaded. My Fastest time 12.97@109 on stock Turbo.

Mustang SVO - 84 (175hp) - 86 1/2 (200hp), the 85 1/5 came with 205hp. ($2000+) They come pretty loaded stock, leather, power everything, Koni Adjustables from the factory, even a switch to select between premium or regular fuel. Comes intercooled and a larger air meter than XR4Ti, and had a beefier transmission (Borg Warner T5). Cheap and easy upgrade is an intercooler from 87-88 Thunderbird TurboCoupe. Quite a bit harder to find but parts are easy to find since it is still a fox-bodied mustang.

86 1/2 - 92 Supra, can be picked up for $2500-8000 depending on year and condition. Loaded, digital climate control, leather option. With $4000 in bolt ons I made 428rwhp on stock internals. Beefy tranmission and rear end. Only weak spot is the factory head gasket, tends to give out at 13psi/boost so upgrading to an HKS/Greddy unit is a must. A little on the heavy side, 3600lbs. Currently I'm making 478rwhp on stock internals. No track times yet.

Eclipse/Talon/Laser ($2000-$6000 for 1st Gen) - AWD is good for fast trap times, but harder to net high trap speeds. You can buy any year but will have to mix and match components, ie transmission, axles, head, blow off valves. Low 13s are easily attainable on the stock motor/turbo, 12's with upgraded turbo. Lots of aftermarket support, which is nice.

323 Turbo or Sprint Turbo are fun little cars, 1.8 DOHC Turbo and a lightweight car, some came with AWD. Conquest/Starions are also quite nice with a 2.6L SOHC Turbo, RWD, but hard to find, especially the later models 87-89 and aftermarket support isn't that large. Loaded, digital climate control, sleek design.

But, if you want to live forever, you can buy a honda, because Speed kills.
