isn't that what you hated about american cars though?..they were designed...not engineered like you say japanese cars are?

The Corvette Z0x's seem pretty decent.

i saw the sky and the soltice at the auto show this weekend and gm is gonna drive a potentially very popular model into the ground by releasing it under several brands. the sky and soltice look almost just the same, theres not enough difference for them to be seen as different cars. and oh yeah, chevy has a concept nomad built on the same platform, and the front end looks the same.

i dont necesarily think that 2 versions will kill it, but i do think that anymore will. i think that saturn is seen as a cheap econo car, and a somewhat special model like this will just cheapen the image of it, and with it looking almost just the same as the solstice people will catch on that it is the same and will see it as a cheap car.

[quote name='Skylinecar1982' date='Apr 18 2005, 03:51 AM']Actually, yes I have late model Driven SS camaros and there suspension is horrible. I have actually some of american's best ACR Viper, Viper, SS camaro, Saleen Mustang and to tell you the truth I was more imprested the first time I drove a Type R Interga. What was good about american cars in the 60-early70's is because almost all cars back then where designed. And no this isn't coming from GT4. Even in the JGTC the viper almost always comes in last. I seen it in real life too(Fontana). I have tons of car videos with Corvette's just coming in last out of a field of japanese cars. I mean have you ever seen any best motoring videos. And oh I did work at couple dealerships for 6 years of my life so yeah I driven alot of different cars. And seriously what does it mean if I went to TEXAS A&M or a community college. If you judge people on where they went to school then there is a problem. Some of the smartest people I know didn't go to college. See what it comes down to is great cars aren't about raw power skid pad numbers or what it looks like on paper it's about having great balance between everything. That is something I haven't see any American cars to have.

Thats why in lemans the corvettes beat just about everybody...

and the zo6 corvettes beat all the imports in comparison tests.

Some of the smartest people you know that didnt go to college prolly dont engineer cars for major companies.

Go drive a z06 and tell me it isnt a well balanced, fast, well made, reliable, awesome handling, awesome looking sports car that would rip the **** out of most things imported.

I think any car that is FR 2 seats and not made to drive kids to football practice is a very nice thing to see from an american company. You can talk all you want Japan VS american in engineering. But im going to go with Porsche R and D. sorry.

at my auto school we have a like 98 camaro SS...the thing is a terd, and if you think it gives a good driving feel your nuts! hella low end though! American engineering = perfect doughnuts!

I think the Chevy Nomad concept was killed at the prototype stage, and Im very glad Saturn gave up the "Curve" styling and instead used the Vauxhall VX Lightning styling/overall feel. When I asked one of the people working at the saturn booth why i would pay more for the sky than for the solstice, all he replied was "It looks better" which I agree with, but is still a sorta weak marketing point to add on a few thou to the price tag (solstice starts at ~$20, Sky at ~$25) Especially when there are better roadsters out there for cheaper, like the new miata which is like 200 lbs lighter and still has 170 hp stock, as well as the current mazdaspeed miata, Toyota MR-S (altho not as powerful), Lotus Elise (quite a bit more expensive), Honda S2000 (more powerful, a little more expensive), 350Z, 3-series convertible, SLK350 and GM's own (year or two old) Corvette convertible etc. Im glad that GM is finally putting together some decent cheaper RWD cars, but they need to face up to the competition a bit more, throw in a turbo or supercharger or something, and make the car something more special. Building the last Opel Speedster/Vauxhall VX220 off of the elise's chassis was brilliant and created a very desirable car (plus saved GM on R&D), why cant they do it again with the upcoming elise?
