i really need help passing emissions...
my rx7 has 185k on the chassis [includes exhaust] and motor has around 40 or 50k rebuilt...
i got a new catalytic converter and put 92 octane gas plus rubbing alcohol...
it helped a lot... but i need 1.2 for CO idle, and im still getting like 2.5
my mufflers are pretty crapped out since they are the original mufflers...
and im pretty due for an oil change...
so do you guys think it would help if i changed the oil and cleaned the injecters?
(i dont have money for new mufflers right now)

is this a turbo car? If not id try running 87 octane and trying again. N/A rotaries are designed to run better with LOW ocatne fuel. (with the exception of the renesis.)

Also make sure you run it for awhile on the freeway. You don't want to take it in cold or luke warm, that way the cats are heated up. Check your plugs, and run it with out the air filter before you go in., that will help lean it out a little. Make sure your airpump has a belt on it and is spinning freely when the car is running.

you do have your air pump hooked up right??
but if u wont pass no matter what u can get a waiver if u spend at least 150 tring to fix the emissions.
heres what u do, take your failed emissions paper, to a certified specialist, instruct them to ONLY spend exactly 150 max to fix your car, then u can apply for a waiver..

based on what you said, I can only say what they said above. A little more information on your car would help a lot though...what year, which engine, etc. Pretty sure I could tweak any of the old carbs to get them to pass...too many years of carrying my own long screwdriver to set the carb before the test (and put it right back after).
Also, there's a grand total of 1 shop listed in the approved repair shops list that knows the rotary enough, and since I'm at work I'm drawing a complete blank on the name. they're off pac highway at about 168th though. I finally threw up my hands on the GSL-SE a couple years back - about the only thing I hadn't checked / swapped yet was the ACV, and I didn't really want to dig into it enough to get to it. Sure enough, it was the ACV, and a quick swapped and I passed...but even if it hadn't, I had my $$$ exemption in hand.
Also, there's a grand total of 1 shop listed in the approved repair shops list that knows the rotary enough, and since I'm at work I'm drawing a complete blank on the name. they're off pac highway at about 168th though. I might try taking it to Jerry's Little Car Shop in Kent. From what I have heard, he does good work, and specializes in Mazdas.
EDIT: He's certified, too.
